April Theme Announcement

Updated: Apr 4

As part of our ongoing exploration of All That Surrounds Us, this month we turn our attention to water, to rivers, oceans, and the quiet forces that shape both our landscapes and our lives.

Water is constant, yet never still. It moves, adapts, and transforms everything it touches. It gives life, but it can also take it away. Throughout history, bodies of water have connected us, sustained us, and at times devastated entire communities. In their wake, they leave behind not only physical destruction, but also questions of how to begin again.

Now more than ever, it is essential to protect the environment and respect the natural world around us. Water is vital to our survival, yet we continue to pollute, overuse, and alter it to suit our needs. Preserving it is crucial so that future generations can experience and benefit from all that water provides. Therefore, we must not only protect it, but also take active steps to restore and rebuild what has been damaged.

And yet, rebuilding is never done alone.

In the aftermath of damaged waters, it is people who come together. Along rivers, coastlines, and altered waterways, communities gather in shared spaces of loss and resilience, where care, responsibility, and collective action become essential. The harm we witness is not caused by water itself, but by the ways we have polluted it, overfished it, and reshaped it through dams and development. These moments reveal something fundamental: even in uncertainty, we are shaped by one another. What surrounds us is not only the environment, but the communities we build within it.

This month, we reflect on water as a source of life, and on the disruptions that arise from the ways we have altered and neglected it. We also consider the strength found in unity in the face of these challenges. How do we rebuild when the familiar has been changed or lost through our own actions? What does it mean to restore not only damaged environments, but also trust, connection, and hope?

Through film, we are invited to witness these processes up close. Stories of loss become stories of resilience. Isolation gives way to solidarity. And in movement, much like water itself, we find ways to continue.

Pause.

Look around.

Stand together.
